About the trek

Standing tall at 19,341 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa. Often called the "Rooftop of Africa," Kili is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Because it is not part of a mountain range, the expansive views from Uhuru Peak allows climbers to see the curvature of the earth.

In summer of 2018, at least 30 climbers will climb Kili to raise funds and awareness for the O'Brien School. Follow this page for more updates, and please donate to the school on behalf of their trek! All climbers are paying for their entire trip and climb, so all donations are tax-deductible and will go straight to the school's operations, educational programs, and women's empowerment activities.

about the guides

Serengeti Sunset Tours was founded by Neema & Mark Brostrom in 2006. Neema was born and raised in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Today, the Brostroms live in Minnesota with their two children, managing Serengeti Sunset Tours with their exceptional staff on the ground in Tanzania, led by the exceptional Athuman Juma Njiku.

This will be the second Kilimanjaro Charity Climb that Serengeti Sunset Tours has led in partnership with the O'Brien School for the Maasai. We are eternally grateful for the attention to detail, professionalism, and social responsibility that Serengeti Sunset Tours displays. Neema and Mark are consistent OBSM donors, and we consider the entire company to be family!
